LIVESTOCK farming is big business for villagers and stock theft has become a major threat to their profits.
A total of four cattle and 16 stolen goats were recovered from four suspects at the weekend, Eastern Cape police said.
The confiscation was made after police received information about stock theft in KatKop and Cookhouse.
According to Captain Ursula Roelofse, KatKop cops received a tip-off about a vehicle transporting stock from Ngqaci Village on 29 October. After tracking the vehicle, police found that the driver did not have documentation to load or transport the stock.

“On further investigation, the suspect pointed out the person who sold the stock to him and he also did not have proper documentation or proof of ownership. Both men were arrested and four cattle confiscated,” said Roelofse.
Meanwhile, Cookhouse police, in conjunction with Cradock Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit, arrested two men in possession of 16 stolen goats valued at R29 000 travelling on the N10 on Saturday.
Eastern Cape police spokesman Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli said: “The two suspects, aged 20 and 29, appeared in the Somerset Magistrates Court on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.
“The case was postponed to 11 November.”
