PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa will give the State of the Nation Address (Sona) on 8 February.
In a statement on Wednesday, 3 January parliament spokesman Moloto Mothapo said the National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, and the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) chairman Amos Masondo have received a letter from Ramaphosa asking them to set up the family meeting at 7pm.
He said Ramaphosa called the joint sitting of the two houses of parliament to set out government’s key policy objectives and deliverables for the year ahead.

“During Sona, the president also highlights the achievements, flags challenges, and outlines interventions that government will undertake to unlock development interventions for the coming financial year. The Sona marks the official start of the parliamentary programme for the year ahead,” he said.
On 9 December 2023, EFF president Julius Malema threatened his party would disrupt the Sona.
While addressing the Western Cape Provincial Ground Forces Forum at Shekainah Healing Ministries in Philippi, Western Cape, Malema accused the president of many things including failing to deal with the unemployment rate and suspending them in parliament.
Malema said: “Ramaphosa will not have a peaceful state of the nation address in 2024 because the first thing we are going to demand as we enter that parliament is where are our leaders? Where are the representatives of the people because these people are not employees, but they were sent here by voters to come and listen to the state of the nation on their behalf. Therefore, we can't proceed in the absence of others."
