RESIDENTS of Riverside squatter camp in Mamelodi East, Tshwane always get worried whenever it rains.
They are pleading for roads and a bridge at a nearby stream, which they cross to go to work.
The residents said that they even struggle to get to Mams Mall.
Resident Angelina Dladla (42) told Daily Sun the rain is a nightmare as the roads and stream become full and they struggle to cross.
“We need help with the roads and a bridge.
“We are pleading with the municipality to help us even though we are a squatter camp,” she said.
Another resident, Pretty Karools (35), said: “We urgently need help.
“Rain is a blessing, but it’s nightmare for us.”
As the rain continues to pour in Tshwane, Tshwane Emergency Services has warned residents and motorists. Tshwane Emergency Services deputy chief Charles Mabaso said following the persistent rain from Sunday, 3 April, the South African Weather Services had further issued a level four warning of disruptive rain from Monday, 4 April.
“As such we would like to call upon motorists to be careful of wet road conditions and make necessary arrangements to travel timeously to ensure they keep safe following distances to avoid unnecessary crashes,” he said.
Mabaso also said they were monitoring low water bridges around Tshwane that are known to be a cause of flooding.
“We are calling on motorists to be vigilant and not to cross flooded low water bridges,” he said.
He said that the Tshwane Emergency Services will remain on high alert.
Mabaso said there were no floods recorded so far.
