WELL-KNOWN Soweto taxi boss Shandu Mbatha was shot in KZN while driving with his family.

Mbatha was driving through Estcourt, KZN when unknown people opened fire on his car.

After being wounded, Mbatha managed to drive to the nearby police station

He was then rushed to hospital and is now in ICU, while his 55-year-old wife didn’t survive after being fatally injured.

KZN police spokeswoman Colonel Thembeka Mbele said a man came to Winterton Police Station driving a vehicle with injured people and told the cops that while he was driving along the Nkomokazini area in Amangwe with his family, he was attacked by unknown people.

“He alleged that suspects opened fire, fatally wounding his 55-year-old wife and injuring him and two passengers. The injured victims were rushed to hospital for medical attention. The motive for the attack is unknown.”

Mbele said charges of murder and attempted murder were opened at Amangwe Police Station for investigation.

Gauteng Transport MEC Jacob Mamabolo slammed these criminal activities. He called on the law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to book.

The MEC also wished Mbatha a speedy recovery and conveyed his condolences to the family for their loss.
