MINERAL Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe has announced that there will be an increase in petrol as of Wednesday, 6 March.
These increases will also be found in diesel and illuminating paraffin.
Mantashe confirmed the increase on Monday, 4 March.
The table below outlines the changes:
Petrol 93 increase of 121 cents per litre
Petrol 95 increase of 121 cents per litre
Diesel 0.05% (wholesale) increase of 105,70 cents per litre
Diesel 0.005% (wholesale) increase of 118,70 cents per litre
Illuminating Paraffin increase of 64 cents per litre
LPGAS increase of 41 cents per kg
According to the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) spokesman Natie Shabangu, said South Africa’s fuel prices are adjusted monthly, informed by international and local factors.
“International factors include the fact that South Africa imports both crude oil and finished products at a price set at the international level, including importation costs, e.g., shipping costs,” he said.
Shabangu said the cumulative slate balance on petrol and diesel at the end of January 2024 had a positive balance of R239 million.
“Therefore, a slate levy of zero cents per litre will be implemented in the price structure of petrol and diesel with effect from 6 March 2024,” he said.
