A MARRIED couple has been left homeless by a mysterious fire.

Their five-roomed house in Block GG in Soshanguve, Tshwane, was almost burnt down on Thursday, 2 November.

The husband and wife, who are both unemployed and have been married for more than three years, are now in desperate need of help.

The couple, Katlego (30) and Gloria Dembe (35), blamed load shedding for burning their home. They said it broke out when power came back at 8am.

Katlego said no one was in the house as they left both left at 6am to look for jobs.

He said neighbours called them after seeing smoke coming from the house.

Katlego said when he returned home, people were outside trying to enter the yard. However when they saw a dog, they were scared. They then stood hopelessly outside, watching the fire damage their home.

"We are lucky the house was not completely destroyed, but our important documents were all burnt," he said.

Katlego said they lost property worth almost R30 000.

He said it would be difficult to replace it because some important items were expensive such as a sewing machine, washing machine, Plasma TV and clothes. Katlego said even their IDs, school certificates, marriage certificates and a bible didn't survive.

"We are traumatised by the incident," he said.

Gloria said the fire had taken everything they have worked hard for.

"We will continue praying to overcome such trials," she said.

She said they were trying to be strong, but it was a traumatic experience to go through.

Gloria said they welcomed any donation that would assist them.

Tshwane Emergency Services spokesman deputy chief Charles Mabaso said the incident was reported after 9am on 2 November.

"Firefighters arrived on the scene to find one room of the house that was involved in a fire and extinguished it prior to their arrival," he said.

"No one was injured, and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined," he said.
