THE case against seven suspects who are accused of kidnapping and killing Solomon Mmopane has been postponed to 6 March for further investigations.

All accused, aged between 20 and 36, face charges of murder, kidnapping, malicious damage to property, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, defeating the ends of justice, unlawful possession of a firearm, carjacking and violation of a grave.

The body of the murdered 32-year-old from Dirtig in Hammanskraal, north of Tshwane was found buried in a shallow grave on top of another coffin at the Bosplaas West Cemetery on Friday evening, 23 February.

The suspects were arrested after a missing persons report was made at Makapanstad Police Station on Sunday, 18 February.

According to information received, the victim and his friend were seen drinking at a tavern in Maubane on Saturday night, 17 February and the suspects were also enjoying themselves in the same tavern when they had a quarrel.

It’s alleged that Solomon left the tavern in a black VW Golf and the men were seen assaulting his friend and left with him.

The deceased’s friend was allegedly assaulted by the suspects and bundled into the boot of the car they were driving, but he managed to escape.

On Friday, 23 February, police and umphakathi searched for the missing person with no luck, but the black VW Golf he was driving was found burnt in the bushes.

Samuel Modau, who is representing accused number one, two, three, five, six and seven said the Constitution is clear on innocent until proven guilty and that they have the right to apply for bail.

Community Policing Forum chairman in Dirtig, Sello Dire said residents want to see justice served.
