THE Hawks have bust high-flying Joburg businessman Edwin Sodi and six other people in connection with the 2014 Free State asbestos project.
Sodi was nabbed at his lawyer’s offices today. The other six include Free State Human Settlements Department head Nthimotse Mokhesi and former national department head Thabani Zulu.
Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the seven will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Friday. “We are expecting to finalise everything today. Those who have not handed themselves over have to do that before Friday,” he said.

Mulaudzi didn’t want to name the suspects, saying they had to appear in court first. “What we are sure of is the case has to go on, irrespective of what happens today,” he said.
Sodi, who owns Blackhead Consulting, told the Zondo Commission yesterday his company wasn’t qualified to handle asbestos. A tender was given to his company to do audit and assessment and removal of asbestos from old Free State houses. He told the commission he regularly donated to the ANC.
Zizi Kodwa, Pinky Kekana, Paul Mashatile and Zweli Mkhize’s names were among the ANC leaders who apparently have received money from Sodi.
