CHRISTIANS say no to single marriage bill.

The leader of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), Reverend Kenneth Meshoe, led the march to the Department of Home Affairs in Tshwane, on Friday, 15 September, to hand over a memorandum opposing the Single Marriage Bill.

He said the God of judgement would deal with the rebellious. Meshoe said there are three types of marriages in South Africa - a law regulating marriage between a man and a woman, the 1961 Marriage Act, and customary marriage for those who want to have more than one wife.

"With the new marriage bill, people will no longer know who is husband and wife in marriage. They want to abolish husband and wife," he said.

Moshoe said the passage of the marriage bill will affect Christianity by undermining what God has said from the beginning.

"The bible says: therefore, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined together, and the two shall become one flesh," he said.

Meshoe said pastors should do their jobs and perform marriages of men and women without fear. He said they are here to challenge, deny and reject what they say because our God is always right.

"Our country is in a mess and going down because there are leaders who think they are smarter than God," Moshoe said.

Wonkie Ncoco, presiden of ACDP Women of Destiny, said: "God created a man and a woman. We do not want chaos and confusion."

Pastor Malixoe Mdolo, the president of God Save Africa Political Party, said: "They have challenged God and will not be shaken."

Home Affairs director general, Livhuwani Tommy Makhode, received the memorandum.

"I am receiving the memorandum on behalf of Minister Aaron Motsoaledi who could not make it because he has another engagement. I can assure you that we will take note of the points raised in the memorandum and respond accordingly," he said.
