THIS year alone, shebeen queen Brenda Mahada’s place has been raided three times and she’s had it with the cops!
“Every time they come they take my stock,” the 45-year-old told Daily Sun.
“I have a permit but the police are still making my place a private playground!”
Brenda from Mahaba, Katlehong in Ekurhuleni said the first time, they told her they were taking her booze because she had sold a beer to a resident too early in the morning.
“It was past opening time but I decided to let it go,” she said.
She said they came in January, in February and they came again on 18 March.
She said they told her she wasn’t complying, but they didn’t explain why.
“When I go to the police station to get my alcohol back, they never help me,” said Brenda.
“This really hurts. This is my only source of income.”
She said she’s been to a prosecutor who ordered cops to give her booze back, but they still won’t do it.
She said so far they’ve taken about R7 000 worth of booze. “I really want to know what I’ve done to deserve such treatment. I’ll do everything I need to do just to bring back peace to my shebeen.”
Daily Sun spoke to Gauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Sello, who advised Brenda to lay a formal complaint with the station commander or the district commissioner for a formal investigation to be conducted into the allegations.
Daily Sun tried to get comment from the Independent Police Investigative Directorate, but they hadn’t responded at the time of going to print.
