A GUGULETHU family is looking for their daughter after she left the house to the toilet and never came back.

Sindisiwe Nxokwana (16) left the house and went to the toilet at the back of the family’s three-roomed shack.

The mentally ill disappeared on Monday, 20 March, in Barcelona squatter camp a day after she arrived in Cape Town with her mum.

Her mum, Nwabisa Nxokwana (43) doesn't know anyone or any places since she just moved to the area.

Sindisiwe's aunt, Thelma Stadler (59), said they are worried that she disappeared after spending a day with them.

"She doesn’t know Cape Town, and she doesn’t even know us well because we had just met," she said.

Stadler said she saw Sindisiwe passing outside her bedroom window and walking towards the gate.

The aunt said she informed her daughter Thandeka Mhlanga (33) in the house to check on her.

But when she went outside, Sindisiwe was already outside the gate.

Thandeka called her name and asked her to come back, but she just waved and started running.

“She ran away, and when I followed and tried to look from all over, she was nowhere to be found. We informed community leaders to help search for her, but she was not found," Thandeka added.

The mother, Nwabisa, said she took her daughter from Eastern Cape to Cape Town because she also had gone missing there recently.

After she went missing, she was spotted in Lloyd Squatter camp and around Marikana squatter camp in Philippi East.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie confirmed the incident.

“The latest information at the disposal of the investigation officer reveals that the missing 16-year-old mentally challenged girl was last seen in the vicinity of Lloyd Squatter Camp, situated near Delft. Investigation into her disappearance is ongoing,” said Pojie.

The investigation officer, Sergeant Yandiswa Jack, appeals to anyone with information on the to contact her at 072 625 3971, the nearest police station or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
