A SEX worker's life was spared on 2 October 2022.

This comes after a man who was driving a white bakkie called one of the three sex workers she was with on Goud Street in downtown, Joburg on 2 October.

The sex worker dubbed Miss A testified in the Joburg High Court sitting in Palm Ridge, Ekurhuleni said the man took Joyce Moyo, one of the six workers who were found dead on 9 October.

Miss A, who requested that the court protect her identity and voice, testified in the case against Sifiso Mkhwanazi who is accused of killing six sex workers.

The bodies were found at Sifiso's father's panelbeating workshop in Joburg.

On Monday, 12 February, Miss A told the court that the man who was driving the bakkie stopped six metres away from her, Joyce and their two other colleagues, who were working at around 7pm.

"I went to his car and a window was opened. I was trying to talk to the client, and he pointed out that he wanted my friend Joyce, who was changing her clothes behind me.

"Joyce went to the car, and they talked but I couldn't hear what they were saying with the person in the car. Then she came back to collect her bag and went to the bakkie, and they drove off," said Miss A.

She said this was the last time she saw Joyce.

She said a few days later, she received a call from one of their friends, who's also a sex worker.

"She was asking me about Joyce's whereabouts because they had not seen her since 2 October.

"I told her I last saw her going with a client, who was driving a white van on 2 October," said Miss A.

She said on 9 October, she and other sex workers heard that bodies were found at a workshop, and they went to see what was happening.

"When we arrived, the cops had cordoned off the scene. I saw Joyce's sister Grace, who then told cops I was the last person to see her sister. Cops then called me and took a statement.

"They then asked if I can be able to identify the van that took Joyce. In the building, there were a lot of vehicles, and I managed to point to one of the vans that took my friend," she said.

The state prosecutor, Advocate Leswikane Mashabela, asked Miss A if she could identify the person who took Joyce.

"I couldn't to identify him, but I could describe him," said Miss A

Sifiso's lawyer, Vuyo  Maqetuka is expected to cross-examine Miss A on Tuesday, 13 February.

Earlier in the day, Sifiso's father Mark Khumalo testified that his son confessed to him that he had killed the sex workers as an act of revenge.

He claimed he believed his son's confession.

Khumalo was among the people who combed the workshop and discovered five decomposed bodies hidden in various parts of the building.

In his admission to authorities, Mkhwanazi said he gained access to his father's safe from a drawer in the office where he stored his firearm and used it to kill one of the sex workers.

The defense counsel, Vuyo, asked Khumalo how Mkhwanazi managed to get the keys to the safe.

Maqetuka said his client got the keys to the safe in the drawer in the office.

Khumalo said: "I don't know where he found the keys because the keys to the safe are separate from the other office keys."

The trial continues on Tuesday, 13 February
