GREEDY Meyerton Licence Department officials were arrested for corruption on Friday, 20 October.
The seven suspects were arrested at the Meyerton licensing centre in Midvaal on suspicion of fraud relating to the issuing of driving licences.
The seven suspects include licensing officials and driving licence applicants, and one of the suspects was found with more than R30 000 in cash which is believed to be proceeds of the suspected criminal activity.
The operation was conducted by the Road Traffic Management Corporation’s national traffic anti-corruption unit and the Commercial Crimes Unit of the South African Police Service.

RTMC CEO Advocate Makhosini Msibi, who was present during the arrests, said he blames the greediness of the officials for rampant corruption at the centre.
Msibi said investigations continue and more arrests are expected.
