ONE of the seven women killed by an alleged Seshego serial killer between August and last month was laid to rest on Saturday, 20 November at her home in Ga-Mabotja Village, Limpopo.
Andrea Cholo (26) received a heroic send-off from her family as well as hundreds of mourners who attended her funeral.
Andrea, a mother of one, was described as a hard working woman who wanted to help her parents renovate their home when she got a job.
She was a media studies graduate.
Both her parents Helen (58) and Machuene Cholo (60) still find it hard to accept that she’s no more.
Her father Machuene said they had hoped for a lot from Andrea as she had just graduated from the University of Limpopo.
“We last saw her on 16 August before she left home for Seshego. I started to suspect that something bad had happened to her because she always communicated with us but on that day she didn’t and that was the last time I saw my daughter alive. She was brutally killed for nothing,” said the heartbroken father.
Andrea’s funeral was attended by many people, who had to stand outside the yard as there wasn’t enough space to accommodate everyone inside.
Oageng Makhura of Seshego Community Against Crime and Gangsterism said the alleged serial killer used the same style to kill the seven women.
“We know that there are businessmen who worked with the serial killer to feed their snakes to become rich. We are warning you as your days are numbered,” he said.
Headman Phineas Kgwadi thanked his fellow villagers for the support given to the Cholo family during this difficult time.
“It wasn’t easy for all of us because when she was first reported missing, we joined hands with the family to give them support and pray for her safe return. We were all left shocked and heartbroken when we learnt that she has been found dead. Let us all be careful as the enemy has launched a serious attack on women,” he said.
The alleged Seshego serial killer, Themba Prince Dube, has been arrested and faces seven murder charges and kidnapping.
He appeared in the Seshego Magistrates Court on Monday, 15 November and his case was postponed to 27 January next year for further police investigations.
