THE trial of five men accused of killing Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa resumed in the North Gauteng High Court in Tshwane on Monday, 14 November.
The trial resumed with the cross-examination of Meyiwa’s childhood friend, Tumelo Madlala.
Initially, Advocate Zandile Mshololo, the lawyer for accused five, was meant to start with her cross-examination but TT Thobane, the lawyer for accused one to four applied for re-examination, which was granted by the court.
Going back to Madlala’s testimony, Thobane asked if he remembered the time estimations he wrote in the statements he gave the police after the incident. He further asked Madlala to estimate the time he arrived in Vosloorus on the day of the incident and the time the alleged intruders arrived at the house.

Madlala responded that he could not estimate the time because he was not checking time.
Thobane took Madlala through the statements he gave the police, where he was able to mention the times.
“In your statement you were specific with the time but now you say you can’t estimate,” asked Thobane.
Madlala responded by saying that he did not write any statements but was told to sign.

Thobane asked Madlala how he was able to point out one of the accused after he told the police that he doesn’t remember the face of accused number two. Madlala responded by saying that he remembered the suspect very well.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The court adjourned for the day.
