CONTROVERSIAL Malesela Teffo stole the shine once again at the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial in the North Gauteng High Court on Tuesday, 2 May.

The trial suffered a slight delay after Teffo arrived in court wearing his robes, even after being disbarred in 2022 when the court found he lacked integrity and could no longer meet the threshold to be an advocate.

Before the proceedings could continue, he requested to see the legal counsels and the presiding judge at the chambers.

When the judge instructed the lawyers to engage with their clients to whether they should allow him to talk or not, Teffo took offence.

He said the reasons for him to come to court were not for public domain, but needed to be addressed in the chambers.

Teffo was part of the trial before his dramatic exit in July 2022, and the reasons for him to be in court are still unknown.

He told the media that he was not prepared to disclose why he was in court while he has been disbarred.

Five men Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli are  standing trial for the murder of Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa.

They are facing charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a license, and possession of ammunition.

They all pleaded not guilty.

When the proceedings finally got underway, a new lawyer for accused three, Advocate Charles Mnisi, brought an application in court to recall the three state witnesses who have already testified.

He told the court that there were some clarities that he needed from their testimonies.

He further told the court that his client Mncube wanted the assertion made by his then attorney TT Thobane, that a witness would come to testify that, the bullet that killed Senzo came from the gun that was in the possession on Longwe Twala during a tussle between him and singer Kelly Khumalo, to be disregarded.

While Baloyi said they have no objection with recalling the three witnesses, they, however, couldn't disregard the assertion made by Thobane because it was on record.

Baloyi said Mncube will need to explain what made his lawyer to say that.
