THE Eastern Cape police have launched a manhunt after a 22-year-old security officer was fatally wounded following a shoot-out on Thursday, 22 September, in KwaNobuhle.
According to Captain Gerda Swart, it is alleged that at about 9am, two security officers were escorting a bread truck towards Gqabi Street when approached by two unknown men.
“One of them drew a firearm and started shooting at them. A security officer returned fire, and was fatally injured,” Swart said in a statement.
She added that the suspect also disarmed the officer and fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.
“Cases of murder and robbery will be investigated by the provincial organised crime investigation unit,” said Swart, adding that the name of the slain guard would be released after formal identification.
