AN honest Sassa employee in the Roodepoort CBD was praised this week for exposing corruption.
Working with the Gauteng Hawks, the employee helped bust two suspects who offered over R35 000 in bribes to register elderly individuals for Sassa grants.
Gauteng Hawks spokeswoman Colonel Katlego Mogale reported that the suspects, aged 45 and 70, allegedly approached the Sassa official with a scheme to register elderly people for a fee.

Mogale said the process was done outside of the normal registration procedure and happened in two phases.
“The second batch of 20 applications and R23 150.00 were handed over today (24 April 2024) and both suspects were arrested,” Mogale said.
She added that Sassa lost R38 150.00
Mogale further revealed that upon inspecting the suspects' vehicle, an unlicenced firearm and ammunition were found by the team.
The suspects have been charged with corruption, possession of an unlicenced firearm, and possession of ammunition.
They are scheduled to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on Friday, 26 April.
