SANGOMA Mkhulu Jobie (39) said people looking for igobondela should not come to him.

“Feeding a love potion to another person is pure evil,” he said.

“I didn’t train to be a sangoma to promote bad deeds.”

He has warned other izangoma not to give people igobondela because human flesh is used to make it – and using human flesh is not associated with the ancestors. “It destroys the image of the sangoma,” he said.

Mkhulu Jobie, real name Johan Albert, is originally from Rustenburg but is based in Moloto Village for his sangoma work. He trained as a sangoma in 2019.

“When I was still training as a sangoma, my ancestors warned me never to give love potions.

“They told me igobondela is evil,” he said.

“My work is to heal the sick,” Mkhulu Jobie told Daily Sun.

He said it was not an easy journey for him to become a sangoma as he fell ill and his life turned upside down.

He was told that ancestors from his mother’s side are clashing with those on his father’s side.

“For my life to get back to normal, I heeded the call,” he said.

He said his dad, who died in 2021, accepted the situation and even paid for his training. His mum died in 2014.

“Since I became a sangoma my siblings have cut ties with me. I don’t have a place to stay,” he said. “I’m looking for a stand where I can build a house and my indumba.”
