SOME members of the Zulu royal house are defying a court order that declares King Misuzulu as the undisputed Zulu throne successor.
Family members, who don’t want him coronated, say the throne remains vacant until such a time that specified rituals are performed and core Zulu royal family members and the Zulu royal council have had their sitting to appoint the new king.
On Wednesday, 2 March the Pietermaritzburg High Court ruled that King Misuzulu must be coronated as the Zulu king because he remains the undisputed successor to the late King Zwelithini.
Prince Mbonisi, the late king’s brother, again said as per custom, pronouncement of a new king cannot be made without the family performing sacred rituals.
“We note the judgment handed down by Judge Madondo in matters filed by Queen Sibongile Dlamini-Zulu and her two daughters Princess Ntandoyenkosi Zulu and Princess Ntombizosuthu Zulu-Duma, and myself,” he said.
“We reckon the cases and judgments handed down have no bearing on the matter of the successor of the Zulu king.”
Mbonisi said they would ensure that in their quest to appoint a new king they are guided by Zulu customs, the Constitution, the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Act of 2019 and the submissions made by late king to the Nhlapho Commission.
King Zwelithini’s daughter, Princess Ntandoyenkosi Zulu told Newzroom Afrika that the custom states a king born from the queen with royal blood does not apply to the Zulu nation. She said the family needed to come together and choose the rightful king to the throne.
