MZANSI is going backwards under the ANC government.

This is according to Rise Mzansi leader, Songezo Zibi.

He told about 800 delegates at Constitution Hill in Joburg on Friday, 6 October that this was because the ruling party was stealing money meant for the poor.

"Instead of feeding the people who are now dying of hunger and depression, we're repaying loans with money stolen by ANC cadres and their friends, including the Guptas. And you know what? They're still stealing public money today," he said.

He claimed that unemployment is higher than it was 20 years ago and that there are more unemployed graduates today than ever before in our history.

"Nearly half of all children who start school never finish because of poverty, hunger, stunting, drug abuse and other problems. A child born today has only half a chance of reaching university and even less chance of ever getting a job. Patients in Gqeberha die in pain because doctors don’t have needles to drain internal bleeding," he said.

Zibi said that businesspeople are shot dead in broad daylight and armed criminals rob shops near police stations, just to show they can do anything they want.

"It's a country where the police and ministers are held captive by criminal elements and the president keeps questionable money stuffed in his couch," he said.

He told delegates that they have the power to decide what future they deserve. He said it is not written anywhere that they have to submit their dreams for approval to people who do not care about them.

"We must decide to be free in our own minds first. This weekend we are reclaiming our political freedom. The issues that will be discussed this weekend reflect the areas where people want change. These themes are the result of the intense listening and reflection we have done with ordinary people from all walks of life and from all parts of our country. South Africans want the quality of life for their families to improve dramatically. They want to live long, healthy and safe lives where jobs, income and wealth building are possible because there are basic services and opportunities to prosper," said Zibi.

He said as important as economic policy solutions are, Rise Mzansi delegates must realise that they cannot build an economy without a strong, ethical and capable government.
