TRAUMATISED residents held a prayer in front of the shop where four people were shot and killed on Tuesday, 7 June.
Residents from Site B in Khayelitsha said the Madiba Supermarket owners assisted the community.
The killing has shocked the community and residents do not want such horrific killings to occur in their kasi.
Resident Vuyisa Maya (69) said: “This shop was a go-to for many people who are struggling to put food on the table. Besides being affordable, the owners would also assist the families with food.This is a loss for our kasi.” We are calling for the end of these senseless killings,” said Maya.
Khayelitsha station commander, Brigadier Mnonopheli Magobiyane, urged residents to work with the cops for a crime-free Khayelitsha.
“The cops need your help. Let’s report crime to police so that they protect our communities from criminal activities,” said Magobiyane.
Reverend Ntomboxolo Malangeni said: “We are praying in the streets of Khayelitsha to cleanse our communities against the shedding of blood of innocent people by criminalsWe are praying to God to protect Khayelitsha.”
This year alone, Khayelitsha has had five mass shootings that have claimed the lives of 27 people. The first was in New Monwabisi Park on 14 March where five people were killed. The latest incident four people on 7 June.
Cops’ spokeswomanBrigadier Novella Potelwa said police have opened murder dockets for investigation following an incident where three men were shot dead.
“A fourth victim later succumbed to their injuries in hospital,” said Potelwa.
