RESIDENTS from New Beginning in Mfuleni, Cape Town were shocked after they found the body of a man in flames in their kasi on Saturday, 30 April.

Community members told Daily Sun the man was beaten before he was set alight by angry residents who accused him of tormenting them.

“He was screaming for help but nobody could help as the fire was big already. He died with a tyre around his neck,” said a community member.

Residents said the dead man was accused of robbing people while wearing a police uniform.

They also claimed that the dead man shot and killed a man last week after a misunderstanding.

He then disappeared for a week and was moered and burnt on his return.

“This time karma was quick to respond because this man had tormented residents for years. He is well-known for robbing people and it’s sad that he even robs those from the community he lives in,” said a woman who was at the scene.

Residents told Daily Sun that some people were scared to report him to police because they feared that when he left jail he’d hurt them.

“The circumstances surrounding the death of a man (30) in New Beginning, Mfuleni in the early hours of Saturday, 30 April are under investigation. Mfuleni police were called to the scene in Klipfontein Road, where they found the victim with fatal burn wounds.

“The victim was declared dead on the scene by paramedics. The motive for the murder is yet to be established. The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested,” said Swaartbooi.
