TAPS are expected to run dry in several areas in the City of Joburg for at least 30 hours.
Rand Water has announced the emergency shutdown, due to a major burst.
In a statement released on Friday, 4 November, Joburg Water informed residents under Rand Water that the major burst was on the A6 pipeline, and the shutdown would be implemented at 6pm to effect repairs.
The pipeline supplied water from Vereeniging purification works to the Zwartkopjes pump station.
“Rand Water and Joburg Water infrastructure, both towers and reservoirs will have maximum capacity during the shutdown,” read the statement.
However, some reservoirs, towers and direct feeds would be affected should the water level drop to critical levels, including Forest Hill tower, Yeoville reservoir, Berea reservoir, Hursthill reservoirs, Parktown reservoirs and Crown Gardens reservoir.
Direct feeds affected included the Hector Norris pump station and Turf Club.
