TEACHING and learning were disturbed at Ohlange High School, in Inanda, on Wednesday, 14 February.
This happened after some pupils from the school in the north of Durban suddenly fell ill with painful stomachs.
Three of the pupils had to be rushed to hospital as their conditions were severe, while others were sent home.
It's alleged that the pupils fell ill after eating food given to them during an event where the KZN MEC for Education, Mbali Frazer, officially introduced a building contractor for upgrading the school on Tuesday, 13 February.
A resident, who lives next to the school and attended the event, said the pupils were given chicken rolls with salads.
He said they suspect the chicken made kids sick.

"On Wednesday, they fell sick. Some of the teachers, who ate the chicken, also complained of stomach pains. Although we're not 100% sure that it was the chicken, as it was the only thing they ate that day, we suspect it was the cause," he said.
A School Governing Body (SGB) member responsible for internal affairs, who identified himself as Bhengu, said only the provincial department must comment on this matter.
KZN Department of Education spokesman, Muzi Mahlambi, said officials, teachers, MEC, SGB members and parents ate the same food and were not affected.
"What gives us comfort is that health inspectors are involved, and they'll get to the bottom of this so that all of us will have closure. We thank our health colleagues for attending to our learners at the clinic. They were released after treatment," said Mahlambi.
