A TAVERN owner was left outraged after a prophet stole R10 000 from her till!

The cash went missing from Khutsang Tavern in Mzombana Village, outside Mokopane in Limpopo on Sunday, 13 March.

This came after the cashier allowed the prophet, who is her boyfriend, to sleep in her room at the tavern.

Furious owner Morongwa Mashaphu said the cashier told her the prophet, who is well known in the area, tricked her by saying he wanted to go outside to pray on Sunday morning, 13 March. She gave him her key to unlock the door and that was the last time she saw him.

She later discovered that the week’s profits had been stolen.

“I was forced to take credit from SAB so my business can continue operating. I’m so stressed because this is money I will never get back,” said Morongwa.

“I had to fire her because she was careless and brought a thief onto the premises. This is a lot of money for a small business to lose.”

Morongwa said the cashier had worked for her for three months.

She said she called the prophet and he told her he was in Tshwane. But he later stopped answering his phone.

Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said a woman was arrested on Monday after a case of theft was opened at Mahwelereng Police Station. She was released on warning while investigations continue.
