THE University of Cape Town’s vice-chancellor Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng’s dance moves have got social media abuzz!
This after she posted a video of herself celebrating after she won the prestigious Africa Education Medal on 7 September.
This is a medal awarded to an outstanding individual who has demonstrated impact, leadership and advocacy in the field of education. The video posted recently was captioned: “Mood after winning the #AfricaEduMedal.”
In the video, Phakeng is seen typing on her computer and then abruptly standing up.
She then shows her followers some fancy dance moves as she dances to Asibe Happy by Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa featuring Ami Faku.
The finalists of the coveted award included former Tanzania president Jakaya Kikwete.
Phakeng has received congratulatory messages from various people, including Oprah Winfrey.
Oprah said Phakeng deserves the medal as she had demonstrated her prowess in the education sector.
“Congratulations to you, Professor, on being named the winner of the Africa Education Medal. It’s an honour recognising leaders who are making a positive impact in education.”
Western Cape Premier Alan Winde said Phakeng is a great leader.
Former UCT vice-chancellor Dr Mamphela Ramphele also congratulated Phakeng.
“Congratulations to my sister, Mamokgethi Phakeng. She is a dedicated visionary leader in education,” she said.
