bodyguards whose duty is to protect the number one citizen of North West, Premier Bushy Maape, are not happy with their working conditions.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Sun, one of the VIP Protection Unit guards said: “Our dignitaries are always seen in public highly protected and safe, but if those who protect them are not satisfied, what will be next?”
He said it wasn’t fair that they were always working without receiving their overtime.
“Since last year we’ve had many promises that haven’t been fulfilled. It so sad that we always sacrifice for our jobs and fail to have time with our families.”
The guard said they loved their jobs, but their working conditions were discharging them.
“We are actually doing our work from the bottom of our hearts, with more focus, concentration and determination, but it’s discouraging. We spoke to the premier a number of times, but he’s not assisting us. We also spoke to other relevant stakeholders, but there’s no help. This had been a problem in other provinces too but it was resolved within three months, but why not in North West?”

Daily Sun had also learnt that the problem was also allegedly happening to bodyguards of MECs.
National police spokeswoman Colonel Athlenda Mathe said: “The well-being of our members is of paramount importance and it is important to highlight that the SAPS management is looking into the matter.”
Meanwhile, the premier’s spokesman Sello Tatai said they couldn’t comment as bodyguards were paid by the SAPS.
