DA federal chairman, Ivan Meyer, says the march started at Church Square because Department Treasury offices are there, and they wanted to send a message.
"This is the headquarters of all corruption. This is where the budgets for the ministries are allocated and the ANC steals them," he said.
As DA leader, John Steenhuisen, prepares to announce the party's manifesto ahead of the 2024 elections, political analyst Levy Ndou said this was an opportunity for the party to encourage more South Africans to vote for it.
Ndou said the speech should be powerful and persuasive enough to convince voters who are still undecided to vote for the party.

He added that by presenting its manifesto at the Union Buildings, the DA was also making it clear that it was ready to take over the government.
He said while he was not sure the DA was ready to run the government, he hoped shadow ministers had learnt a thing or two about governing.
Ndou added that these elections were crucial for the party, especially for Steenhuisen as he has to ensure the party wins.

He is sad the DA didn't do well in the 2019 elections. That's the reason Mmusi Maine was ousted and Steenhuisen could suffer the same fate, he said.
"One of the reasons Maimane had to leave the DA was because they said he didn't perform well. That puts pressure on Steenhuisen to move from the spot and deliver a lot of votes to the party."
