POLICE conducted roadblocks, stop and search operations and closed unlicensed liquor outlets in Evaton in the Sedibeng District Municipality over the weekend.
The acting district commissioner, Mbangwa Nkwashu, said the police would work tirelessly in ensuring that motorists obeyed the rules of the road and that the community was safe during the festive season.
He said those who were found to be on the wrong side of the law would be arrested.
He praised the good work conducted by the police officers over the weekend.
He further advised the community to be on high alert during the festive season because of an increase in crimes such as robbery and hijacking.
Stokvels were also warned to be extra careful when sharing money.

In one of the roadblocks, the Tlhabanelo family that was from a weekend holiday in the Free State told Daily Sun they were happy to have travelled safely on the N1 with police all over the road.
The family said that every year in December, they used the N1 to travel to their holiday destination and had seen many accidents on the road caused by drinking and driving.
But they said this year, they travelled from the Free State and back to Gauteng without seeing any accidents.
Police spokeswoman Sergeant Nombulelo Mohlakoana said that multiple operations were conducted over the weekend in the Sedibeng District Municipality.
The operations were conducted by police officers and other stakeholders such as Home Affairs and the Sedibeng District.
A total of 198 suspects were arrested for various offences, including drinking and driving, assault, sexual offences and possession of drugs.
“Illegal immigrants were also arrested and unlicensed shebeens were closed. Wanted suspects for various crimes were also traced and arrested,” she said.
Mohlakoana said that all suspects were expected to appear in various courts in Sedibeng such as Sebokeng, Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging on Monday, 19 December.
