A FATHER from Marabastad squatter camp in Atteridgeville, west of Tshwane, is in pain.
This comes after his six-year-old daughter was mauled to death by two of his neighbour’s pit bulls.
Cedrick Maunde said he fetched his daughter, Charmaine Munepya, from school on Monday, 16 May and dropped her off at home.
Then she went to play with three friends at a friend’s place.
He was shocked to receive a call, saying he needed to come back and rush his daughter to hospital. But nothing could have prepared him for what he found.
“I found my child in a pool of blood. She was unrecognisable. Those dogs ripped my daughter apart. She died a painful death.”
Cedric said from what he was told, Charmaine was playing with friends near the neighbour’s yard when the dogs gained access through a fence.
He said the four kids fled to a nearby house, but the dogs followed them inside.
“I was told the dogs went after my child, who was hiding in the bedroom. They dragged her to the kitchen and started to maul her. The house owner could not do anything as he was sick. He watched in vain as my daughter screamed for her life,” he said.
He said the owner of the house the kids ran into also died from shock.
“Basically, the dogs killed two people.”
Cedric said he was shattered by Charmaine’s death and felt helpless. He was hoping for the law to take its course
“I want the owner of the dogs to face the full might of law. People cannot breed such dogs and fail to create security.”
Colonel Dimakatso Sello said cops had opened an inquest case.
“Circumstances that led to the incident are unclear, and investigations are underway,” she said.
