IT was a joyous day as unemployed young people were finally employed.
This happened during the ceremonial presentation of appointment letters to more than 200 Trainee Traffic Officers at the RTI offices in Pietermaritzburg on Friday, 8 September.
The handing over of the appointment letters to the trainee traffic officers is part of the mass employment initiative of the provincial government, S’thesha Waya Waya.
KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube, MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Sipho Hlomuka, Member of the Provincial Legislature Bishop Vusi Dube and other dignitaries attended the award ceremony.
The Department of Transport has increased the deployment of law enforcement agencies, especially officers from the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) and the Public Transport Enforcement Services (PTES).

Appointment letters were presented to Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) who have been recruited and will start training this year.
They will strengthen the existing traffic enforcement staff and create much needed capacity.
The KZN government is working to create jobs to combat unemployment and mobilise the business sector and social partners to create sustainable jobs.
Hlomuka said this government is putting its money where its mouth is.
"Against the prophets of doom who claim that S’thesha Waya Waya is a scam, we are now proving that we are determined to create jobs for young people. These new recruits, will assist in beefing up operations within the law enforcement once they have completed at the college. We remain determined to make a difference in people’s lives. In August 2023, we will have completed one year in office and this is one of the commitments to recruit more traffic officers” one year later," said Hlomuka.
