CHIAWELO Funeral Undertaker in Soweto has been robbed for the third time.
The undertaker was robbed early on the morning of Monday, 28 March, the thugs making away with electronics such as printers and a computer.
They also stole the CCTV cameras installed as a preventative measure following two break-ins in 2018 and 2019.
Worker Percy Mulaudzi said to Daily Sun: “They took the equipment we use to work, including cameras. Cops came, but we’re still waiting for a fingerprint expert. They also wanted to steal the wheels of a nearby car, but failed.”
He said crime was rife in the area and they suspected local youths.
Percy said crime was only committed in the office and the coffins and bodies were untouched.
He said they were struggling to work because thugs also stole the electricity meter, which at first had compromised their refrigerators. But with that challenge resolved, they were now only unable to work in the office.
Business owner Washington Mulaudzi (80) told the People’s Paper he was doubtful they would get justice.
“The police are useless. They come and take fingerprints, and never give feedback. This is the third time we’ve been hit, but no one has ever been arrested.”
He said the business was at a standstill because they were unable to work.
