Despite the urgent court application by late king Zwelithini’s daughters Princesses Ntandoyenkosi Zulu and Ntombizosuthu Zulu-Duma to interdict King Misuzulu's traditional coronation, it went ahead.T

he princesses lost their bid to interdict the traditional coronation in the sacred cattle kraal at KwaKhangelamankengane royal palace on Saturday, 20 August.

Thousands of people gathered at the royal palace to witness the coranation.The Zulu king spent about two hours in the sacred private space in the cattle kraal and he come out wearing traditional attire and sang with amabutho saluting him as the king.

King Misuzulu said the traditional coronation in the cattle kraal is more important to him than the upcoming one at Moses Mabhida Stadium where President Cyril Ramaphosa will hand over the certificate to him on the date to be announced.

He said he is grateful that the day of his coronation has finally arrived, and the nation should pray and be one.

“I’m happy that people are always behind me during difficult times. God has blessed us to witness this day. Even myself I’m born in the royal house, but it is my first time witnessing the Zulu king traditional coronation in the cattle kraal. I’m happy for you all who have witnessed this historic day,” he said.

King Misuzulu thanked late king Zwelithini’s younger wife, queen Zola Mafu-Zulu for being the only late king's wife, out of the five remaining, who attended the traditional coronation.

He thanked the Zulu nation who supported him since he ascended the throne.“I’m happy that people are not confused and they know their king. I know there is the lot happening in the royal house.

There are others who are talking, you can listen to them but not take them seriously.“My father and my mother left me to take care of the Zulu throne and I will make sure that I lead their people,” he said.King Misuzulu thanked Ramaphosa for recognizing him.

The event was attended by kings from Zambia, Malawi and DRC as well as cabinet ministers Senzo Mchunu and Mondli Ngungubele and KZN government MECs.The caption should read: King Misuzulu raises his spear during his traditional coronation
