A 25-YEAR-OLD male suspect was arrested by the Joburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers in possession of robbed and stolen iPhones at a flat in the Joburg CBD.
JMPD spokesman Superintendent Xolani Fihla said on Wednesday, 16 August, their undercover unit recieved a complaint about an iPhone that was robbed from its owner at gunpoint.
Fihla said the phone's tracking device was signaling that it was around the Joburg CBD, which led the officers to a flat at the corners of Von Brandis and Jeppe streets.
He said upon arrival, officers found a male Mozambican foreign national on the premises.

“They searched the flat and recovered the said iPhone and a hundred and fifty-two other iPhones believed to be stolen or robbed from the owners.
"A laptop used to unblock stolen and robbed phones was also recovered,” Fihla said.
He said one of the phones was traced to a pickpocket incident in Jeppestown earlier in August 2023.
“The suspect, who was also found in possession of Mozambican currency, was arrested for possession of stolen property and detained at Joburg Central SAPS.
“A further probe by police will be conducted to uncover this cellphone robbery syndicate,” Fihla added.
