People living with disabilities took to the streets on Thursday to demand job opportunities.

A GROUP of more than 60 people living with disabilities held a peaceful march on Thursday, 12 October.

The aim of the march was to demand better services and job opportunities for people living with disabilities.

The march was organised by the Musina Disability Forum. The protest took place in front of a local municipal office in Nancefield.

The angry protesters accused the Musina Local Municipality of taking people living with disabilities for granted. They demanded access to clean water and proper housing, among other things.

The group expressed frustration with the ongoing water problems in their community and stressed the urgent need for a permanent solution.

Protester Rendani Manengena told Daily Sun that they had tried several times to communicate their concerns to the municipality without a solution.

"Our calls always fall on deaf ears and as people living with disabilities, we feel that we're forgotten because we aren't treated with dignity," she said.

According to the protesters, they no longer know who is responsible for their concerns and claim that the municipality is ignoring them. The protesters claimed that there are houses built for people with disabilities but occupied by people without disabilities.

They handed over their list of grievances to ANC councilor Rudzani Luambo and gave him a deadline of seven days to submit it to Mayor Godfrey Mawela.

Municipal spokesman Wilson Dzebu said they'll forward the memorandum to the mayor.
