HEAVILY sedated patient Refiloe Dibete was admitted to Arwyp Medical Centre in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, where she was allegedly left traumatised and embarrassed after she messed on herself.
The 41-year-old told Daily Sun that due to the lack of compassion and care, her wound got septic in the process.
“I was admitted to the hospital on 17 September. Upon admission, I was heavily sedated. I was then taken to a ward, where I fell asleep. I was woken up by a nurse, telling me that I had messed on myself. I responded by asking: ‘Should I wipe myself?’”
Refiloe said she was traumatised and embarrassed because eight rude nurses came to clean her up, then she was given a tranquilliser.

“I messed on myself and didn’t feel it. I was ambushed (a surprise attack by people lying in wait in a concealed position) by eight nurses. What happened after that was traumatic, to say the least.”
She said that she felt disappointed by the lack of compassion and care from nurses, who she said were not well-informed on how to treat a critically ill patient.
“The hospital should have at least made me aware of its unskilled nurses. I felt ashamed, embarrassed and humiliated by what they did,” she said, adding that her treatment was not working so they had to put an IV in her neck.
“My drip didn’t work for four to five days, so the medication was not going into my body. I heard the unprofessional nurses say I deserved it.”

Refiloe said she fell at home on two occasions, leading to her wound being affected.
“My main problem is that my wound got septic even when I asked daily for them to clean it. The wound was by my uterus, so it was in my lower tummy. They just looked at me and said it looked fine but when I went to a different facility, the results proved otherwise.”
The SunTeam contacted the hospital, but someone quickly hung up when they heard it was Daily Sun.
