PASOP SOCIAL MEDIA TSOTSIS!

accreditation

THUGS are now using social media to target their victims. They do this by advertising and selling goods online.

Once the price of the product is negotiated and agreed upon, the thugs recommend a pick-up point. The thugs tell people to bring cash for the goods and they’re robbed of their money, cellphones and other valuables.

This syndicate has become popular in Tshwane areas including Winterveld and Soshanguve, and Kgabalatsane in the North West.

It’s now spread to other provinces and after many cases were reported, cops prioritised them to get to the bottom of the matter. According to information received by Daily Sun, goods that are advertised include appliances, especially flat-screen TVs, chairs and toilets. According to information, gathered, the suspects used a similar method to rob their victims.

It’s reported that police brought in victims for further investigation and one of the victims said the suspect who robbed him in December called him again on another cellphone number. The suspect was not aware he was talking to someone he’d robbed. Cops arranged with the victim to meet the suspect and planned a crackdown. When they pounced, two of the three thugs managed to flee. One was arrested near Dr Motsuenyane Comprehensive School in Winterveld on 25 January.

Gauteng police spokesman Captain Mavela Masondo said a team comprising of senior detectives and members of crime intelligence has been tasked to investigate these cases and trace suspects.

“In one of the cases, a suspect was allegedly shot and killed by the victim, while another suspect was arrested. The arrested suspect will appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrates Court on 8 February. Other cases are still under investigation,” said Masondo.

Cops appeal to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigations to call the nearest police station or on 08600 10111.
