“MADIBA did his duty - we must all do ours.”
This was said by Rise Mzansi leader Songezo Zibi, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the death of former South African president Nelson Mandela.
Zibi said the story of Madiba’s life is well documented and told, and his contribution to the fight for justice and freedom will be remembered and spoken of through the ages.
He said despite his transcendental leadership, it's also true that the country we live in today provides ample evidence that his life mission remains incomplete.
“For millions of South Africans, the right to vote has yet to translate to real freedom, from poverty, lack of opportunity, discrimination, economic exclusion and other forms of injustice.

“We learn from his life that justice can never be achieved by avoiding political struggles. The best way to honour his life and legacy is to use the space provided by our democratic dispensation to fight for a better, deeper democracy, more caring politics, more effective government and a safe, equal, united, prosperous and truly non-racial society,” he said.
At the same time, the ANC commemorated Mandela as a global icon and a symbol of hope and resilience.
The ruling party reflected on Mandela’s remarkable journey and his fight for freedom.
“His unwavering commitment to freedom, equality, and justice inspired millions worldwide and paved the way for a more just and equitable South Africa.
“This year also marks 24 years since Mandela's presidency concluded in 1999 further dabbing him as a stalwart of the ANC who dedicated his life to liberating his people and others worldwide,” said ANC spokeswoman Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation said as 2023 marks a decade since Mandela's passing, this is a time to reflect on gains and losses, shaping his legacy.
“Challenges of unemployment, energy crises, leadership issues, poverty, and inequality persist. Let's honour him by striving for a fairer society. His Legacy lives on through you,” they said.
