A COUPLE in India is suing their only son for more than £500 000 (around R10 million) for failing to produce a grandchild.
Daily Mail reported that Sajneev Prasad (61) and his wife (57) had filed a petition against their son and wife, who got married in 2016.
The father told The National World that his son was in an arranged marriage, and was sent to Thailand for their honeymoon to produce an heir.
“We killed our dreams to raise him. It is a dream of every parent to become a grandparent. We had been waiting for years to become grandparents,” Sajneev told the publication.
He added that he gave his son and wife an ultimatum to have a child within a year or pay up.
The parents reportedly gifted the couple with an Audi worth £63 000 (around R1,2 million), and paid for their elegant wedding reception at a five-star hotel.
They also claimed that they had spent £265 000 (around R5 million) on their son since he was born.
AFP reported that the matter, labelled as a domestic violence case, would be heard in the Haridwar District Court on 17 May.
