THE ceiling is allegedly falling on pupils during lessons.

The kids are allegedly not fed properly at the school and the toilets are dirty. Some classrooms are unoccupied due to their condition.

These were some of the complaints from parents who disrupted lessons at Lekamoso Secondary School in Etwatwa, Ekurhuleni on Monday, 16 October.

The protesting parents, who were joined by pupils, want the department to remove the school principal.

Parent Mbalekwa Mgidi said: "Kids were forced out of their classrooms because of the falling ceiling."

Another concerned parent said: "We want to know what the principal and his SGB are doing with the money meant for our school. They keep throwing parties with the money meant for school maintenance."

The parents said that apart from falling ceilings and toilets, there are many other things that are not in order at the school.

They said the toilets are blocked, the doors are broken, and the kitchen is in a bad condition where food cannot be prepared.

The angry parents said: "The school is like a pigsty. We have genuine grievances, and we couldn't have taken to the streets if things were going well. We want the principal and his SGB removed."

The parents said this was not their first protest. They said they handed in a memorandum to the Gauteng Department of Education offices in February 2023, but nothing happened.

"This means that the department is not taking us seriously."

Gauteng education department spokesman Steve Mabona said they were aware of the situation at the school in question.

"Officials from the Department of Education visited the school on Monday, 16 October. The department is investigating the complaints raised by parents. We'll respond in detail in due course," Mabona said.
