A Quantum driver is in hot water, this after he loaded his Toyota Quantum with over 30 pupils.

The man from Moruleng, in North West, was arrested on Friday, 9 September by the North West Provincial Traffic Authorities.

Police spokeswoman, Boitshoko Moremi, said the 22-year-old driver loaded 35 pupils in a 16-seater vehicle.

She said he was charged for overloading.

“He was also charged for operating the vehicle contrary to the terms and conditions of the operating licence,” said Moremi.

“The driver is transporting pupils without a scholar operating licence nor is he contracted by the department. Therefore, he is charged for non-compliance to the National Land Transport Act.”

She said the pupils’ ages ranged between 14 and 16 years.

Acting Chief Director for Transport Regulations, Paul Stone, said the overloading and usage of public transport vehicles contrary to the law will always be dealt with harshly. Any driver found to the contrary will be dealt without mercilessly.
