THE family of Mzansi football legend Phil Jones Setshedi, affectionately known as "Mr Clean" confirmed that the former Orlando Pirates player will be buried on Friday, 27 October.

The funeral service will be at Bryanston Methodist Church from 9am to 12:30pm.

Setshedi will be buried at Waterfall Cemetery.

Mr. Clean passed away on Thursday, 19 October, three days after he underwent surgery after a short illness.

Malodi Setshedi, the daughter of the former soccer player, told Daily Sun that they received a call on Thursday morning informing them that her father had passed on.

“My father was not well. He went to the hospital, they performed surgery on him, and three days later, he passed on,” said Malodi

She said since receiving the sad news, the family is not coping well, but they are holding on so that things can pass.

“I’m trying to push for everything to fall into place. I get moments, but I must be strong for my stepmother,” Malodi added.

Being the only girl child, Malodi said her father taught her to stand up for herself. “

As a girl child, I was very close to him. I have twin brothers who are older than me, and I'm the only girl,” she said.

Malodi added that her father was a very loving person.

"He was a quiet man but always watching. You would think he is not aware of what’s happening in his surroundings, but he was a clever man, always watchful,” she said.

Malodi also described her father as a very caring man who loved people and loved himself very dearly.

"He was a gentleman and loved looking good,” Malodi.

Paying tributes to the legend, in their statement, Orlando Pirates said that during his playing days with Orlando Pirates, Phil Setshedi was a formidable defender.

He earned the nickname "Mr. Clean" for the way he carried himself both on and off the field.

He was always impeccably dressed, and his commitment to cleanliness and personal grooming was a testament to his professionalism.

The family said they will not have a memorial service for the fallen legend.
