FOUR roadblocks were held in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni, today, 17 November.

This was part of the police cementing the Safer Festive Season campaign launched two weeks ago.

The joint operations by members of the South African Police Service, Community Safety and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Police Department saw several suspects bust.

Amaphela (small local taxis) that were operating without proper papers and those believed to have been stolen were confiscated and the owners were arrested.

The main roadblock was near the Duduza Taxi Rank on Black Road in Tsakane.

Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said a number of illegal immigrants were also arrested.

Gauteng acting police commissioner Major-General Tommy Mthombeni led the multi-disciplinary Operation O Kae Molao in Tsakane.

Masondo said the operation was aimed at stamping the authority of the state and assisting the local police station with the reduction of crime.

Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, encouraged motorists to abide by the rules of the road to reduce the festive season fatalities.
