TWO Hawks officers and a sangoma, who were arrested for dealing in ammunition, were granted bail of between R1 000 and R3 000 on Monday, 30 May.
Colonel Refiloe Maria Elizabeth Mnisi (45), Captain Mapatsi Thandi Mooka (41) and traditional healer Elizabeth Nonhlahla Chabalala (44) were granted bail by the Tshwane Central and Tshwane North magistrates courts respectively.
Chabalala is facing a charge of possession of ammunition, Mnisi of theft of ammunition and Mooka of defeating the ends of justice.
The two officials appeared in the Tshwane Magistrates Court, where Mnisi was granted R3 000 bail and Mooka R2 000.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokeswoman Lumka Mahanjana said: “Chabalala was granted R1 000 bail. It is alleged that Mnisi stole three boxes of live ammunition and gave them to the complainant in the matter, who is also a Hawks official. Mnisi allegedly asked the complainant to deliver the ammunition to Chabalala’s home in Soshanguve.”
She said the three were arrested on 27 May by the Hawks priority crime investigations unit.
“Chabalala was arrested in her home after receiving the ammunition while the two other accused were arrested at their respective residences. Chabalala’s matter was postponed to 12 July while the matter regarding the officials was postponed to 27 June for further investigation.”
