TO help reduce banking scams and theft, Zwivuya Maumela has invented a robot called Nova, which will provide banking assistance to the elderly and people living with disabilities.
This is because an increasing number of the elderly and people living with disabilities are being robbed at ATMs.
The 21-year-old from Muhuyu Village outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo told Daily Sun his robot is the solution to ATM scams and theft.
“It’s here to make lives easier through seamless banking powered by technology.”
The final-year BSc computer science student at the University of Limpopo said the robot intends to help everyone understand and learn more about banking.
“Users will be able to use the robot by standing in front of it and moving their hand from left to right. The robot’s eyes will turn blue to indicate that it can detect the user,” he said.

Zwivuya said users will be able to deposit money and access their banking information.
The robot is still in the prototype stage, and Zwivuya is looking for investors and sponsors to help him develop and commercialise it. “I need mentorship from people who are already in the banking industry so I can fully develop the robot as I haven’t finished it yet due to a lack of funds,” said Zwivuya.
