DRAMA unfolded at Vereeniging magistrate court after murder suspect, Sizwe Buthelezi, abandoned his bail application on Tuesday, 28 March.

Buthelezi was arrested on Saturday night after his girlfriend alerted the cops that he killed and buried the sister of former Orlando Pirates player, Bennett Chenene, Nomvula inside a shack they once stayed at Lakeside in Orange Farm.

LGBTQI+A members together with community members and the Chenenes family flocked the Vereeniging magistrates court in the afternoon to attend the case.

Angry community members asked court to release Buthelezi after he abandoned his bail application.

Emily Seforo(84) the owner of the house that Nomvula was found in, told the SunTeam that there was a bad smell coming from the shack and when she enquired about the bad smell, Buthelezi told her that he had poisoned rats and he can’t find them and when police told her that there’s a body in her yard, she remembered the bad smell.

Lakeside ward 2 councilor, Dimakatso Ramafikeng said what makes her angry is that the girlfriend of the Buthelezi was among community members searching door to door hoping to find Nomvula for five days.

"When they take the direction to the woman’s place, she directed community members to another direction," she said.

Police spokesman Captain Fikile Funda said that police have opened a murder case and investigation is ongoing.

The Vereeniging magistrate court postponed the case to 03 May 2023 for further investigation.
