WHAT was meant to be a quick taxi trip turned into a nightmare for Nompumelelo Mkize.
The 27-year-old ended up losing her front tooth after she was allegedly assaulted by the driver of an e-hailing taxi following an argument over change!
Nompumelelo told Daily Sun the ordeal started when she requested a trip from the Joburg CBD to Auckland Park on Saturday, 15 October.
A driver, who is allegedly affiliated with the InDriver App, picked her up for a cash trip of R50.
On the way, Nompumelelo told the driver she had a R100 note but the driver was not pleased with that.
She said he stopped at a shop in Auckland Park to get change but looked furious.
Nompumelelo said the driver then told her she had put the wrong address in the app and started to shout at her, so she got out of the car and went to get her change at his window.
“He held my hand and punched me in the face. He then started driving, dragging me. I lost my tooth and was bruised all over. He just drove off,” she said.
She said that when she went to Joburg Central Police Station, she was told to go to Auckland Park. She said the cops were rude and told her to stop crying.
She said she also reported the matter to InDriver, but got no response.

An investigation by the SunTeam found the car owner is Mpho Maumela. When called, she refused to comment.
InDriver said: “All we can do is block the driver from the app.”
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said victims of crime can open cases at any police station.
