No one knows man hit by train

A MAN was hit by a train in Naledi, Soweto, at about 9am on Wednesday, 11 January.

Daily Sun spoke to a few people who were at the scene.

A resident said he suspected the man may have committed suicide.

“The train made a really loud sound for long.

“Even if you were attempting to cross the railway at the time, there’s no way one couldn’t hear that loud sound,” he said.

The man said he saw the body but didn’t know the man.

Another resident said it was so loud that there was no way the man didn’t hear it.

One of the residents said he was not sure if the man was trying to kill himself or not.

He revealed that people from Naledi and Protea liked to cross that railway no matter how many times they were told to stop.

“I really pray that kids don’t come near it,” he said.

Gauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Sello said police in Naledi have opened an inquest docket.

She said the victim had not been identified and was believed to be in his late 30s.

Sello said that circumstances that led to the incident were unknown at this stage and police investigations were continuing.
