THE Multi-Party Charter believes it can topple the ANC.

The so-called "Moonshot Pact" facilitated by the Democratic Alliance (DA) has emerged from a two-day conference as the Multi-Party Charter.

The seven parties include the DA, ActionSA, the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), the Freedom Front Plus (FF+), the National Freedom Party (NFP), the United Independent Movement (UIM), the Spectrum National Party (SNP) and the Independent South African National Civic Organisation (ISANCO) met for two days to come up with a charter that they believe can dethrone the ANC and stop the EFF in its tracks.

The parties' leaders formulated details of their partnership ahead of next year's general election, agreeing that they would contest polls as individual political parties.

But they agreed that the leader of the largest party would represent the coalition as the head of government should they win next year's general election.

Conference chairman Professor William Gumede said the Multi-Party Charter of South Africa would form a new government to build a just, inclusive and thriving South Africa based on opportunity, freedom and security for its citizens.

Gumede said that while the goal is to remove the ANC from government, the various leaders agreed that their priorities would be to address the greatest challenges confronting South Africans.

These included growing the economy and creating jobs, ending load shedding, achieving energy security, combatting crime, corruption, and drugs, and ensuring quality education that delivers opportunities for all.

Gumede said the parties also agreed that a new cabinet must reflect the diversity of Mzansi people.

UIM president Neil de Beer said: "I hope this will be the beginning of reconciliation for all South Africans."

DA leader John Steenhuisen said: "My focus from now until the next election is getting this Multi-Party pact over the line with a majority so we can usher in a new era of hope and prosperity."
